This is where it's all put together, the only implementation of predictive maintenance for steam traps. Test-and-replace just doesn't do the job for larger facilities.
Minimize costs and hassles of managing steam traps
Much less trap testing -- with proper planning you don't need to test all your traps. If you have 2,000 identical thermostatic drip traps just find out how long they last and replace them on schedule. You have less testing and less steam losses. The idea is simple, but it couldn't be done - until Trapo. Trapo's 20-trap test samples make it easy, only the test sample traps are tested.
Traps automatically replaced just before they begin to leak
Trapo's graphical and cost/benefit analyses help you find the proper trap lives for replacement. Generally, this is when only one or two percent of the traps have failed. After this point, steam losses increase so rapidly that any trap replacement cost savings from longer lives is quickly overwhelmed. This only works with proper trap data; only Trapo collects the proper data.
Traps to be replaced can be predicted for budgets, etc.
Predictive maintenance makes your trap maintenance predictable. This means you know in advance how many of what kind of traps will be replaced. This eases budget preparation, parts ordering, and planning your staffing and contracting.
In comparison with annual trap testing in a district heating facility:
Save $32/trap/year
Reduce trap testing by 86%
This is about $7/trap/year better than Trapo's Stage II. By using predictive maintenance, you have traded higher trap replacement costs for lower testing costs and steam losses; you have replaced trap testing hassles with planning. This stage is worth it if you have 500 or more traps - and the fewer types and sizes the better. Steam$$ is the ideal tool to find out if Stage V is worth its cost to you.
Collect and analyze detailed trap testing results including pH, conductivity, etc.
For the last step in steam trap management, you can find out more about why your traps fail. You don't have to do this, but you may want to. This is ideal for determining why traps last longer in one facility than in another or exploring which brands and models are best for you (and why they are). Like many of Trapo's advanced capabilities, you can decide which, if any, of the detailed data to collect.
